Ahoy (music) pirates!
Ready to sail through some wicked (sometimes in a good way, probably sometimes in a bad way) sound waves? Grab a set of cans or plop your ears next to some larger magnetically vibrating boxes and vow to listen to the following albums until it hertz. That is the vow put forth in the A Chord. I am honored to walk the plank and pick the first album, Illumination by Miami Horror. I came across this little pearl while cleaning the kitchen of a nine armed octopus who got angry after he spilled hot tea on himself and flailed around in spectral frequency breaking dishes and getting crumpets all up in my hair. Worth the mess, however. What Miami Horror brings to the table is some of the innocent goodness of 90s electronic sound that makes you want to skip down the sidewalk with a boombox on your shoulder while simultaneously enjoying a fresh frozen treat from the ice cream truck. But don't dismiss this as a thank-goodness school's out afternoon special, there is a shroud of mystique that keeps you dancing, egging you on to discover what crazy Thom-Yorke motion your body is going to involuntarily decide correlates with the beat.
I quite enjoy this album and hope you all will too. If not, I've already fed the giant crocodile the clock and you've got one week to decide if you think this album deserves to be confined to echo in the chamber of Tick-Tock's belly.
please, enjoy. your beat is nice. i like your bass.

I listened to the album once through yesterday while doing some editing and I must say, I enjoyed it very much. It is a super fun and upbeat album, diverging from some of the more somber stuff I usually listen to. I feel like some of the tracks are very "Discovery"-esque. Did anyone else find that to be true?
Moon Theory is very Discovery, a delicious coincidence between the titles.
Being an emu lover, as well as an avid flamingo lover, I tend to bury my head underground for rules of picking favorites. As such, I am submitting many preferred tracks:
I Look to You
Moon Theory
Summersun
Echoplex
Holidays
Down with the rules! But replace them with rules!
Bullshit. I demand you make decisions.
Micah, I see three vote results, but only 2 votes. I changed my vote to one song, does that mean that you voted for two?!
You can vote for more than 1 song. I told the computer to allow it and IT WAS SO.
This blog is going to my head. But yes, I thought it only fair to allow people to pick multiple songs.
It is settled then, top three tracks.
Speaking of robots and humans, have you noticed how on the Daft Punk track Robot Rock/Oh Yeah from Alive, the voice that says Robot is less distorted and robot sounding than the one that says Human? Very sly.
A stellar album, I think, and a dynamite way to get this club rolling. I agree with the Daft Punk allusions, and also, like most things out of Australia, feel some of the sounds echo the 80s (and not in a bad way). "Sometimes," in particular, has a background melody that recalls New Order in "Bizarre Love Triangle."
Additionally, songs transition pretty effortlessly between higher energy to more spacey, surreal tracks. Although, I have to admit an affinity for the tracks with more energy. Like you Micah, I found it refreshing in contrast to what I've listened to as of late.
I voted in the poll, but didn't have access to the tracks at the time, so I might need to revise slightly. Favorites include "I Look To You," "Holidays," "Moon Theory (and how!)," Imagination," and "Ultraviolet."
Hopped on this train a little late- definitely digging this album though, and I agree with Danny that it is a great kickstart for what we got goin here.
These tracks are funky, lots of cool sounds, little licks and hooks that I find myself looking forward to or waiting for, now that I've listened a few times and am getting to know the songs. A few more listens and these will evolve into things that get stuck in my head.
Been listening at work, and its great, positive and upbeat, got me dancin in my seat (until someone walks by and sees me). Missed the poll, but so far I think Holidays is my fav.
The girls vocals on some tracks (more later ones), and some of the electronic sounds, remind me of Apples in Stereo.
Sorry I was late to get started, still wanted to contribute. And now, on to The National!
I agree, Sarah. Many of these songs have gotten stuck in my head too. In fact, I was listening to The National last night, and could not stop humming "Moon Theory," which I think is my favorite track. So sick.
